John Wesley, the founder of Methodism, preached his first sermon in the area at Chowdene in 1743. The Meeting Room that was established as a result of this eventually led to the building of Wesley Memorial in the heart of Low Fell.
The extensive premises are used every day for both church groups and those in the community and the church is often the venue for concerts by visiting choirs. A large car park is at the rear of the buildings and the church is on the main bus route between Gateshead and the A1.
